Notre Dame Academy is a private, Roman Catholic all-female college-preparatory school located in Staten Island, New York. Founded in 1903 by the Sisters of Saint Ursula, it has a long-standing tradition of providing quality education rooted in Catholic values.
The school offers education from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, with separate divisions for elementary, middle, and high school students. Notre Dame Academy is known for its rigorous academic curriculum, which is designed to challenge and prepare students for success in college and beyond. In addition to academics, NDA places a strong emphasis on spiritual development and community service. Students participate in religious activities, retreats, and service projects that help instill values of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility.

Preschool/Early Learning Center
With a donation made in the name of a beloved NDA grandmother, the school chose to furnish the space with Whitney Brothers Nature View Straight Sofas, along with custom benches to accompany them. Whitney Brothers is renowned for crafting high-quality, durable, and child-friendly furniture. The academy chose the customizable preschool benches to create more seating for their littlest learners, who at one point, were sitting on the floor in between classes. These benches not only meet the highest safety standards but also boast a thoughtful design that aligns perfectly with the academy’s early childhood environment. The benches and sofas have elevated the space, both via better functional usage and a complementary aesthetic.
Computer Lab
A computer lab classroom is essential to any modern-day educational institution.The implementation of Smith System Interchange Adjustable Height Diamond Desks ensures versatility and ergonomic support for students, catering to their diverse needs and preferences. Complementing these desks are the sleek and stackable Smith Flavor Stack Chairs, which offer ergonomic design and durability, optimizing space utilization while promoting student engagement. CPS and Smith also provided the Cascade Bullet Instructors Desk to facilitate seamless instruction, providing educators with a functional workspace equipped with ample storage and organizational features. These innovative furniture additions not only elevate the aesthetics of the learning spaces but also promote comfort and functionality, contributing to an enhanced educational experience for both students and teachers alike.
Foyer
In the repurposed foyer area at NDA, more additions were incorporated. Smith System provided Flowform Cylindrical Stools in Apricot, designed to promote versatile seating arrangements and movement around the classroom depending on the lesson. Complementing these were the Flowform Large Bean Benches in Fog, creating a large and cozy lounge space for chatting with friends or working on group assignments. The options are limitless! Additionally, Trapezoid Tables and Groove Stack Chairs in Persian Blue were integrated, offering ergonomic support and visual appeal. Together, these furniture selections create a dynamic and adaptable common area for NDA students to use at their leisure.
Flexible Classroom
The final room updated by CPS was originally planned as a Music Room, however, with growing enrollment, additional classroom space was needed, and this room now serves a dual purpose as both classroom and conference area. Best-selling KI Pirouette Nesting Tables, in flax-linen finish, can be flexibly arranged to create different desking options – seminar-style, conference table, or 2-person desks. KI Limelite Chairs, in cool Hazy Jade, with castors and a KI Ruckus Pneumatic Lectern completes this sleek, streamlined space.

NDA Mansion
In Alumnae Hall, home to many of the high school classrooms, Kate Jaenicke’s goal was to maintain the historic charm of the building, while elevating the furnishings to create modern spaces reminiscent of a higher-ed campus. Working with multiple suppliers, including Trinity Furniture, KI, and National Public Seating, CPS and NDA chose pieces that fit both Kate’s vision and her budget.
The Sitting Room
The Sitting Room is a charming spot, where students gather to study and alumni meet to socialize. It features a fireplace and comfy lounge furnishings in a neutral palette with cool accents. Trinity Furniture delivered the Vroom Seating, Polliwog Table, and Savoye Benching. The room’s ambiance was elevated with carefully selected pieces that complemented its design theme.
NDA Library
The adjacent Library, with its vintage, dark paneling, now contains a mix of flax-linen colored KI Connection Zone high and low desking and Pillar Tables, with espresso-hued Bushwick Seating from NPS. New carpeting is a further update while providing additional sound absorption, making the Library the perfect place to study. A common area like a library provides quiet study spaces, helping foster focus and creativity. The room is now infused with an atmosphere of sophistication and is extremely welcoming for students and alumnae.
