East Boston
Central Catholic School
East Boston Central Catholic is the only parochial school in East Boston serving the needs of East Boston and the surrounding communities of: Winthrop, Revere, Chelsea, Saugus, Greater Boston area. EBCCS provides a safe, conducive learning environment that enriches the lives of students on an academic and spiritual level.
EBCCS rests on a foundation of Christian beliefs. The philosophy of the school reflects the values and ideals of all those who have a vital part in the growth, development, and life of the school. The effectiveness of its philosophy is measured by the attitudes, behavior, and daily living of the students, parents, and faculty who have embraced it.
The Story:
In early December of 2023, EBCCS began renovating an old room, most recently used as a “storage closet”, on the 2nd level of the school building. After clearing out old furniture, storage items and supplies, the walls were given a fresh coat of paint and 8 windows were replaced, transforming the space into a light and airy room. New lighting adorned the high ceilings, enhancing the room’s spaciousness. School leaders soon realized the potential – and that this beautiful new space could not go back to being a “storage closet”!
Principal Robert Casaletto could now only envision one thing: a new science classroom that would not only inspire students, but also motivate a long-standing member of his staff, teacher John Teixiera, to delay retirement!
John began teaching at EBCCS over 30 years ago. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated educator, passionate about inspiring students and advancing their understanding of science. As John approached the age of retirement, he was preparing to step away from teaching to enjoy his well-deserved time off.
With KI and Catholic Purchasing, Robert “Bobby” Casaletto created a modern, organized, and highly collaborative STEAM room for his elementary school students. Ruckus Adjustable-Height Desks with Italian Silver Ash laminate and Sky Blue LimeLite Chairs enhanced the newly renovated space. Bobby also added Ruckus Tote and Cubby Storage. Finishing off the classroom space was the All Terrain Mobile Instructor’s Desk, a versatile unit that goes beyond the traditional teacher desk. One might say this was all part of the plan to motivate John Texiera to stay at EBCCS.
Originally, John had planned to retire at the end of the academic year 2023. However, the unveiling of the newly renovated science classroom rekindled his excitement for teaching. The modern equipment and furniture opened up possibilities that weren’t available before. He and Principal Casaletto realized that these upgrades would enable him to teach in new ways, utilizing the latest technology to give students hands-on experiences in STEAM learning. So, he agreed to come back onto the staff for the 2024 academic school year!
